"Here" is the less glamorous streets of New York City, and "there" is battle-scarred Belgrade, Serbia. And to director Lungulov’s camera, the two can often look the same. The issue of where one's home truly is lies at the heart of this story about down-on-his-luck musician Robert (David Thornton) and enterprising immigrant Blanko (Branislav Trifunovic). After Robert hires Blanko to move his few worldly possessions, Blanko offers $3,000 if Robert will go to Belgrade and bring back Blanko's girlfriend under the guise of a hasty "marriage." With few reasons to refuse, Robert winds up living with Blanko's mother, Olga (Mirjana Karanovic), half a world away. Here and There intercuts the adventures of Robert and Blanko, each trying to make sense of brand-new worlds, and features a cameo and music by Cyndi Lauper. —Dave Nuttycombe
